Fantasy Mixtapes

I can’t believe it’s been a decade. In 2008, every week in the NFL season, I published a playlist about an NFL player’s fantasy performance on 8tracks.

Why? It was my first season of fantasy football, and I didn’t fully understand what smack talk meant. Rather than tell a person that their player had a poor performance, I thought a mixtape could deliver that story much more effectively.

Eventually, they became love letters to the players and the game. In retrospect, some of the mixes are horrendous, and my attempts at humor are terrible. A few aren’t bad though. Here are a few of my faves:

The week between the end of the playoffs and the Super Bowl is difficult. This mix can help get you through.

Do punters dream of electric QBs? This game featured two punts total.

Particularly proud of this country-inspired mixtape.

One of several playlists that I like the music of, but not the theme. The celebration of the violence, even prior to what we know now, is too much.

About a man living in his dad’s shadow, even though his dad wasn’t all that good at his job.

The Dallas QB at peak Terrell Owens controversy.

The Denver QB at peak Tebow.

Not exactly a violent delight, but in hindsight, not terribly appropriate.
