I like doing themed playlists. Travel, sadness, driving, change are all fantastic topics, and mixing music in one of those veins gives me an excuse to go back and listen to music – new and old – in a different way.

Giuliana Rossi

To kick off a show with Giuliana Rossi, the natural choice is Iron & Wine’s Walking Far From Home. It’s what she ended up doing, and it fits her perfectly. You’re going to see a lot of things, some of which you will appreciate right away, some that may not strike you until later. The important thing is to get out there and out of your comfort zone.

Giuliana logs her travel online, and she was kind enough to share some of what she’s learned about it. Along with walking far from home, we talked about millennials (she is one), college experiences, and a clothes exchange program for the truly adventurous explorer.

0:00 – Giuliana plays 20 questions, in this case, Traveler or Tourist.

4:18 – “From what I understand, the sun is very prevalent here in Florida.”

5:54 – “Okay, I thought you were actually thinking there were zombie listeners.”

8:51 – “I think it’s important to take a minute and say not just ‘I want to do this’ but say ‘I’m going to do this.’”

13:57 – June 2015 was a turning point for Giuliana as far as the desire to travel goes. How did that happen?

16:13 – “What am I going to in 10 years, am I going to look back and regret not going?”

19:45 – “It’s common there. That’s what people do. They graduate, or they’re still in school, and they get a little more time off, and they go.”

26:12 – Now that she has traveled a bunch, is Giuliana done with the trips?

28:46 – “It doesn’t always have to be Europe, it doesn’t have to be Asia, South America, anything like that. It can be St Augustine, it can be Savannah.”

29:54 – Pop culture quiz, the travel edition.

36:02 – “I want my water parks to take longer to build.”

37:59 – The Bad Business Ideas™ for this week! Fast and Loose or Wooden Nickles.

38:30 – “Not only are you going to choose this meal, you’re going to actually cook the meal, and then prepare the meal. Then serve it to other people. This analogy has gone off the rails.”

42:40 – “I look like a dope all the time. I don’t want to look like a dope in another country.”

44:37 – “I think you definitely have to get out of your comfort zone to wear somebody else’s clothes in a foreign country and rock it anyway.”

47:03 – Bad Business Ideas™ get a role play. Angelina Shortstack and Frederick Flapjacks are in the house.

48:10 – “Okay, hang on, scene. What are you doing, are you flirting with Frederick?”

53:46 – Talking about millennials with a millennial. The millennial is Giuliana, not me.

56:46 – “Impact is the biggest concept that people talk about in the workplace with millennials.”

1:00:11 – “Do the hard things. Make your place someplace worth working at.”

1:02:36 – “I read this awesome quote the other day. It said, ‘Don’t look left or right. Look up.’”

1:07:58 – “What are you actually doing to help the community? You’re speaking about these subjects, but are you volunteering to make it better?”

1:09:45 – Giuliana’s college experience includes UCF and Cornell. She’s hospitable.
